when it comes to healing trauma, slower is faster.
Hi, I’m Tanya. I’m a Somatic Therapy Practitioner — and I’m so glad you’re here! I mostly help HSPs (highly sensitive people) and folks who want to take the next step in their lives — but keep bumping into annoying and sometimes even agonizing roadblocks. You might call these roadblocks “triggers” or “activations”. You might call them fear. Another way of looking at them is that they are protecting you from what your nervous system is not (yet) ready to handle. By the time a person finds me, they’ve usually tried several modalities already, such as psychotherapy, EMDR, life coaching, and an assortment of body-oriented processes like yoga or meditation. These are all good. And they led you here.
I bring over 25 years of experience facilitating body-centered processes and am currently in my advanced year of Somatic Experiencing® Training, which is the primary modality that I use with my clients. I find that for some, it works well to combine Somatic Experiencing® with another body-oriented parts work process that I’m trained in called IRF. One of the outcomes of working with me is a greater sense of coherence.
Coherence is All of you, On the same page, moving in the same direction.
The main difference between psychotherapy and somatic therapy is that with somatic therapy you don’t have to go back to your childhood to sort anything out. You don’t have to remember what happened and you don’t have to understand why. All you need is the willingness to step into something new, a little curiosity, and a willingness to explore sensations in your body in a safe and supported way.
